- Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I graduated from University of Edinburgh with a major in banking and finance. I consider myself to be a goal-driven and energetic individual who isn’t afraid to face challenges.
- What is your role in Averis and tell us more about your career path in Averis.
One of the perks of being a Management Associate in Averis is having the opportunity to rotate between different business units and functions. In the 2nd half of 2022, I was tasked to work with various stakeholders on budget reporting and analysis for a customer’s event as well as Averis 2023 budgeting. It took a whole lot of determination, a pinch of creativity, and an open mind to get my job tasks completed with flying colours. Currently, my career path is headed towards corporate sustainability initiatives. In simple terms, I now have the opportunity to support our customer’s carbon management business.
- How would you describe your current team and role?
I’m currently supporting our customer’s Carbon Management, it’s a relatively fresh business that works hand-in-hand with the sustainability team to achieve our customer’s sustainability goals and initiatives in the pursuit to reduce carbon emissions within our customer’s businesses and achieve NetZero targets in 2030 and beyond. In fact, there are numerous global companies that are also aiming for similar sustainability initiatives, and being a part of this global initiative to tackle climate change as well as positively contributing to the environment and the lives of others is what motivates me to be better at what I do.
- What is the biggest achievement you have made in Averis?
My biggest achievement in Averis thus far is meeting new friends and colleagues in every project I worked on. Indeed, establishing new relationships are very vital in every corner of the firm as it helps you to conduct your work seamlessly and it makes the working environment more fun and engaging. Even sometimes when you encounter difficulties in your work, fret not! Everyone here is willing to provide their valuable guidance and advice. Just the magic word, ‘PLEASE’, would do the trick.
- What do you think has been the most consistent feature here in Averis?
What I enjoy about working in Averis is that opportunities are everywhere, there are so many areas to explore, learn, and experience. For example, for the past nine months, I have been actively working with corporate leaders in all sorts of projects, including Averis budgeting, our customer’s event coordination and planning, organising internal badminton tournaments, and festive celebrations etc. just to name a few.
The best thing is, you can sign up for lots of training and development programmes, which are all well-designed and nicely thought out by our very own ‘Learning and Development’ Team, making sure you have the most fun and exciting journey to Continuously Improve your personal knowledge and skill sets. If someone were to ask me what it takes to embrace all these self-development opportunities, I would say it requires one’s desire and eagerness to acquire new knowledge and the willingness to accept and tackle new challenges.
- What’s your favourite memory in Averis?
My favourite memory in Averis has to be the moments where I get to work with my colleagues (turned friends) to achieve something greater as well as having the chance to celebrate our successes together as a big family. For example, I had the pleasure of assisting in a few sports and customer related events that don’t usually occur, especially in my line of work. This taught me how to properly plan events from scratch. It was truly a great experience!
- Any tips/advice to share with new joiners?
Have an open mind and the courage to step out of your comfort zone, be thirsty to gain new knowledge and see the world from a whole new perspective. I once thought Averis was just like any other typical company, but once I understand their business operations and their customers, I know I can build a forward-looking career with Averis.
