Leandro Gomes, born and raised in the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, which is located in West Africa, graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. - Hi Leandro! Where are you from and what made you decide to come to Brazil?
Hi there. I’m from the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, which is located in West Africa and I came to Brazil for a student exchange programme, organised by my college
- What do you miss most about your home country and culture?
I think I miss my mother, my sister, and my friends the most.
- How has your time in Brazil been so far?
It wasn’t difficult at all because I came mentally prepared to face any kind of obstacles. The most difficult aspect for me was the climate because in the first city that I lived in Brazil, it was much cooler than what I’m used to. The language barrier was also a challenge, especially during my first semester, but I worked hard and in a few months, it was no longer a problem.
- Which college were you in?
I was in Juiz de Fora Federal College, and I graduated with a Bachelor Accounting degree.
- What do you like to do in your free time?
I really enjoy sports. I also like running and working out. I have twin little girls, and I love to spend time with my daughters.
- What do you do in Averis Americas?
I’m a tax analyst, and I usually handle Local, State, and Federal taxes.
- How has your experience been in Averis Americas? How do you like working with your team?
I’ve been in Averis since May 2023 and my journey in Averis Americas has been amazing. This is such a super opportunity to work in a big company such as Averis, and to be honest, I doubted myself. I wondered if I was able to adapt in the company or if I was even good enough. As time passed, I understood what was required and I worked hard to the best of my abilities. Now, my self-confidence has improved so much and the adrenaline when resolving accounting and tax related problems is such a satisfying feeling and this makes me feel happy.
My team is filled with young people who possess the drive to develop solutions that meet our demands. This is inspirational to me.
- Is there any dream that you want to achieve?
I haven’t seen my father for many years, we only talk on the phone. So, I’m planning to give him a surprise visit and spend more time with him. We’re always in need of talents like you!
