Confidence is KEY, according to Joan Lee

14 October 2022

Joan Lee, started off as an intern and now, she’s one of us. Joan’s biggest takeaway from her internship experience is building the confidence and courage to speak up. Keep reading to learn more about Joan’s internship experience with us.

1. Can you tell us a bit about yourself?

I started off as an intern in the Project Management Office (PMO) department and now, I’m a full-time staff in the HR department. I like to challenge myself by trying out various things. When I was given the opportunity to be in different departments, it helped me realise my passion as I’m the type who is eager to learn new things.

2. How did you come to know about our internship programme?

A senior of mine from the same university told me about the companies in KL that provide internship opportunities, and Averis was one of them.

3. How do you feel about the company and the team you are working with so far?

What attracts me the most is the working environment that Averis has to offer. The relaxed and happy working environment as well as helpful colleagues made me feel comfortable and it gave me a sense of belonging.

4. What did you like most about your internship experience?

The seniors in my team were very attentive when I needed assistance. They helped me solve the issues I faced at work, whenever they could. The cooperation among team members made me feel more at ease and it reduced the anxiety that I have about work in the future.

5. What was the biggest challenge that you’ve encountered throughout the course of you carrying out your daily work as an intern? How did you overcome it?

During my internship, the team I was in had bi-weekly departmental meetings and each person was required to take turns speaking. We even had the freedom to choose the topic we wanted to talk about. The main purpose for this was to share our own insights and opinions on certain topics with other team members. This little activity has helped me build the confidence to speak up and have the courage to ask questions when I face any road bumps at work.

6. Any tips/advice you would like to share that helped you in your path as a HR analyst?

Always be open to take on new challenges with a thirst for knowledge. Also, try not to  rush a task just to get it off your to-do list. No matter what job you’re in, you have to work with sincerity in order to get anything done efficiently.
